To My Amazing Sisters

Dear Jenni and Elizabeth,

Mom and I would like to let you know how extremely proud we are of both of you. You’ve stuck to the training program even though the last couple of months have been quite a rollercoaster for all of us. It’s been impressive to see both of you grow as runners and as people through this journey. Know that Dad is smiling down and he’s very proud of your accomplishments. He’ll be in your heads and hearts and will give you plenty of advice whether you like it or not. He’ll give you that extra push exactly when you need it. Just as we did with Dad, make full use of the time that you have on the course. Don’t cheat yourself from getting the full Boston Marathon experience. Take in all the sights and sounds. Listen to the words of encouragement coming your way.

Whenever you find yourself hurting or doubting yourself during the race, think of a couple things. This is an opportunity of a lifetime. It’s an opportunity that not many people get to do in their lives. You’ve both been given the amazing gifts of endurance, strength, and the ability to run. Think about all of the people you are helping by running this race. Think about all of the patients who are bound to wheelchairs or hospital beds. Cry if you need to cry. Whether they are tears of joy, or tears of sadness, leave it all out on the Marathon route. Nothing will prepare you for the feeling of exhilaration and exhaustion you’ll have when you cross that finish line. The time on the clock as you cross the finish line won’t even begin to justify the magnitude and the importance of what you’ve just conquered. You’ll have an army of family and friends waiting to give you the biggest hugs of your lives. Finishing the Boston Marathon will be something that will be celebrated and talked about for many years to come.

I don’t know if I’ve ever had the opportunity to explicitly say this before, but I want you to know I’m very proud to be your brother. I’m very blessed to have a pair of sisters like you. This is your weekend, so enjoy it and revel in limelight. We love you guys and wish you the best of luck on Monday. Cheers.

Love,
Chris
